I expect to agree the exact scope and cost of your project with you before work starts. Having been on the other side of the table when invoices come in I understand no-one likes nasty surprises: the fee agreed with you is the fee charged.

How we work together will depend on the agreed objectives. If you are trying to change attitudes or business culture, it may be best for me to become part of your team or it may make more sense to concentrate on a very specific piece of work independently. Whatever the job, a clearly-defined brief ensures the project runs smoothly.
